Don't Look Back
"God wants to do a new thing. First, we must stop waiting for Him to do an old thing. Move forward brothers and sisters...."
Say not, “Why were the former days better than these?” For it is not from wisdom that you ask this. ~ Ecclesiastes 6:10
Looking back at what was doesn’t change what is now. The former days weren’t better simply because of time. No blessing, no power, no Spiritual awakening or revival is reserved for times past. God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. If we desire change and Spiritual awakening today then we must stop looking backward and start looking upward. According to God, There is no wisdom in focusing on the former days. None.
We miss out on God doing a new thing because we are bent on seeing Him do an old thing. We falsely assume the reason God isn’t moving today is because we aren’t doing what we used to do years ago.
For the individual who has wandered from God, they think they must go back to the same church they left. Return to the same positions they vacated. Join the same groups they belonged to. Stop it. Stop looking back. God makes all things new. What you need to do is start praying again. Start reading your bible again. Start seeking God again. That’s what you need to do today. You do that, and God will lead you into a new season in your life. God will lead you right where you need to go. Maybe that will include some former friends and places. Maybe not. What matters is that you stop focusing on the former days. Stop. There is no wisdom in that. Focus on today and what it is that God is calling you to right now.
For the church who wonders why its power is gone. Why nobody wants to listen anymore. Why the congregation is dwindling. You too must stop looking back to the former days for an answer. There is now wisdom in that. You also must stop making excuses blaming a corrupt world of sinners for the lack of your power. There are lot of churches today seeing sinners miraculously saved. There are lots of churches today experiencing God’s power just like there has always been. What you need to do is pray. Seriously, pray. How many prayer meetings do you have a week? How many hours each week do the pastors spend in prayer? You need to fall in love again with the Word of God. How many hours a week are you in the Word of God? How many hours a week do the pastors spend in God’s Word; not out of duty because they have to, but pick up and read that Blessed Book because they love it?
God wants to do a new thing. First, we must stop waiting for Him to do an old thing. Move forward brothers and sisters. Forward.
