Hidden Love

"Rebuke is hard enough.... even worse is when someone loves another but refuses to say so."

Better is open rebuke than hidden love. - Proverbs 27:5

Nobody enjoys being rebuked openly, publicly. Rebuke is hard enough; but for it to be done publicly is humiliating on a whole other lever. But even worse is when someone loves another but refuses to say so.

“Hidden love” has no power or effect. We need to hear and see that we are loved. Those whom we love need to hear and and see it from us.

Consider the love of God. It is visible. “For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son…” (John 3:16). And in John 13:35 “By this the world will know you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” Consider one of Jesus’s most famous statements ever made on love “Greater love has no man than this than he lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13).

Nowhere in history has love ever been displayed like it was by Jesus when he was crucified to save you and I. And that, publicly. The opposite of “hidden”.

Who do you need to do a better job of showing your love for today? Is it a family member? A friend? God? Maybe all of the above.

Whoever it is, find them. Love them. Tell them you love them. Show them you love them. For hidden love has no power, but a love that is visible is one of the most powerful forces on earth.
