Regarded by God

“He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant.” (Luke 1:48)
How amazing and humbling is it that God regards those and comes to those who are in a ‘lowly state’. That the God of the universe, the Maker of heaven and earth, would regard anyone in this world is humbling enough. But what is more, those whom He regards are the ‘lowly’ among us. The wealth and prestige of this world do not impress God. Nor does wealth, itself, turn Him away. But the truth is that wealth, fame, fortune, and worldly success mean absolutely nothing to God and He does not regard those things as anything worth regarding. Our God regards those who are in a ‘lowly state’.
He is The Redeemer of those in chains; The Healer to those in hurt; The Savior to the sinner; The Father to the fatherless; Yes – our God regards those in a lowly state! What peace to know that we have no need to become royalty of some earthly kingdom in order to be royalty in the Kingdom of God; that we need not belong to some family of royalty here on earth to be sons and daughters in God’s family! What God looks for and what God regards is the humble hearted man and woman – the ‘lowly’. God regards all those who are willing to see themselves as one who needs regarded; not deserves, but needs. God regards all those who see themselves as one who is in need of God’s favor but yet unworthy to receive it. This is the lowly state that moves the heart of God.
It is the pride of man that keeps him from being able to receive God’s favor. It is those who think they need no help that God does nothing for. But to the lowly, the humble and dependent – God regards and comes to them right where they are. He comes to shower them with His grace and His mercy. What a blessed thing to be regarded by God! Lord help us to stay humble; to stay dependent; to remain “lowly” all the days of our lives. May we strive not to be regarded by man, but rather to be regarded by You.
