The Peace of God
Notice that it is always when our hearts and minds are anxious and fearful that we make poor decisions that hurt us, and sometimes hurt others. The peace of God guards us from making these poor decisions.

“…the peace of God…will guard your hearts and minds…” – Philippians 4:7
There is a battle for the heart and mind of every individual. According to Philippians 4:7, the peace of God is thing that God uses to guard our hearts and minds. Notice that it is always when our hearts and minds are anxious and fearful that we make poor decisions that hurt us, and sometimes hurt others. The peace of God guards us from making these poor decisions. Any time that our hearts or minds are filled with fear, worry, doubts, and anxiety we must quickly draw our thoughts back to God and let His peace take over again. This same passage tells us to meditate on praiseworthy and virtuous things. How difficult this can truly be. Our minds seem to be trained to think on the negative first. Isn’t it true that we typically think of the worst-case scenario first when we hear bad news? Isn’t it true that if we don’t get those thoughts in control, before long we’ve convinced ourselves that our world is caving in. It is as if our minds and hearts are set by default to think negative thoughts. We must acknowledge that this is not the mind of Christ in us and we must work diligently to take those negative thoughts captive. We must choose to meditate on praiseworthy and virtuous things. It is the conscious choosing to be anxious about nothing, to pray about everything, and to trust God with it all that gives birth to the heavenly peace that only comes from God. What blessed peace it is! Peace that can only be described as indescribable! It is THE peace, the ONLY peace, that has the capacity and power to guard our hearts and minds from the onslaught of negativity this world brings with it. If your heart is discouraged today my dear brothers and sisters trust the LORD your God, cast your cares upon Him, pray about your needs and then leave them in the Almighty hands of the All-powerful God. He can handle it.
