You must be born again.
"It is not necessary for a person to fully understand how God causes us to be born again. It is only necessary to know that God does cause us to be born again. God gives us a new life. When a person is born again God gives that person a new nature with new desires..."
Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” – John 3:3
There is only one way to heaven for all of mankind. You must be born again. There is no other way. The list of things that will not get you into heaven is enormous. Here are just a few: having membership established at a church, volunteering, helping your community, feeding the poor, caring for the homeless, donating to the church, attending church, reading your bible, praying, listening to Christian radio, being a good person. You can do every last one of those and still go to hell. Why? Jesus answered that question clearly: you must be born again.
It is not necessary for a person to fully understand how God causes us to be born again. It is only necessary to know that God does cause us to be born again. God gives us a new life. When a person is born again God gives that person a new nature with new desires. A nature that loves God. One of the first indicators of a person being truly born again is a real, true and lasting love for God. It’s personal. If you don’t have that, you’re most likely not born again. And that’s monumental, because if you’re not born again, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
How can you be born again? There is no one that can do it for you, but God. The church can’t give you new life. Only God can do that. The pastor can’t give you new life. Only God can do that. Your Christian spouse can’t give you new life. Only God can do that. Your Christian parents can’t give you new life. Only God can do that. If you’re not born again, you have business to do with God. You must get it settled before it is too late. Nothing should be more pressing. Nothing should dominate the thoughts of your heart and your mind like being born again. Your eternal destiny hinges on this one thing.
How can you be born again? Cry out to God. Find the quite place and pray like you’ve never prayed before. Confess your sins to God. He already knows them. Don’t hide a thing. Call it what it is. Confess your sins to God and plead for His forgiveness. Plead with Him to forgive you and wipe your slate clean in His sight. Cry out to God, asking Him to give you new life. Tell Him that you must be born again! Pray until you know. If it takes you all night toiling in prayer to know, bless God it will be worth it! Don’t give us praying until you know that God has forgiven you. Don’t stop until you know that God has heard your cry. That God has washed away your sins. That God has given you a new life. That you have been born again. Pray until your heart falls in love with God! It may take several trips to your place of prayer. It may take several days of seeking God and crying out to Him to save your soul. But trust me on this one thing dear reader – when God gives you a new heart, when you are born again, you will absolutely know it. It is a miracle that happens in your soul; and when it happens you will know. You pray until that happens. And when it does, you thank God with every ounce of thankfulness that can come out of your soul. Then get up from your place of prayer and turn from your sinful ways and serve the Living God.
